Understanding that training is important for the industry and the success of the company led Norco to investing heavily in both time and facilities to equip staff with the skills needed to manufacture high quality products.

The UK’s First Nationally Recognised Qualification in Composite Moulding:
After working with a number of organisations including Business Link and the Learning and Skills Council to research existing training schemes, Norco secured the support of the South West Regional Development Agency and began working with the UK’s National Examination Board to devise a NVQ course syllabus for composite moulding. After a number of re-workings, an NVQ in Composites at Level 2 and 3 was born.

An EAL Approved Centre of Excellence:
Norco has a dedicated 8,500 sq ft training facility which provides all employees with an unrivalled commercial and technical grounding. More than 80 employees have already benefited from robust training programmes that significantly increase the quality of output.

“The practical training in the training centre is excellent and the planning of training is particularly thorough!” College feedback.

The vocational nature of the training means that students are working on products that go to market from the very off, providing unrivalled experience of commercial issues such as quality control and tight deadlines. In addition to gaining solid practical experience, trainees are also provided with vital health and safety and good working practices training – all essential for a long and happy career within the composites industry.

“We have seen our employees taking responsibility for their own development within the dedicated Centre of Excellence. We also actively encourage our employees to become NVQ qualified Trainers, Assessors and Verifiers” says Mark Northey, Managing Director.
