Steve Cox has joined NORCO Composites as Production Manager, charged with increasing productivity and improving operational practices. This is something Steve certainly knows about, given his varied and illustrious career to date.
Having completed an apprenticeship in tool making, Steve joined the telecommunications and engineering giant Marconi Space Systems, working with composite structures in the space and aerospace sectors as Group Manager of the Composites Technology Group. Leaving Marconi, Steve joined McLaren Automotive as Business Development Manager progressing to Business Unit Manager – Composites. There he worked on a number of special projects including the F1 and the Mercedes McLaren SLR road car. After stints at Beagle Technology Group and AIM Aviation, Steve has now joined NORCO.
“My initial impressions are of the variety of product that NORCO are involved in, from flight simulators to submarines to architectural canopies. No one day has been the same so far, and that is really exciting.”
Steve’s primary tasks are to introduce some new processes at the Composites Centre that help improve day-to-day planning and achieve production deadlines, and also to oversee the exciting development of Site D with a new 10,000 sq. ft. of factory space to be constructed in the new year.
“The development of Site D is a huge opportunity for us, and will really help us to undertake the new Work Boats contract we have just secured. We are also looking at how we can develop our capability in even more advanced composite structures. We have the skill set, now we just need some more room.”
Away from work, Steve enjoys spending time with his wife Julie and supporting his beloved Luton Town FC.
