Lead Engineer

The Role:

We are looking for a Lead Engineer to join our growing team based in the Dorset Innovation Park. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this role plays a key part in managing small project teams to enable the smooth translation of customer requirements into efficient manufacturing processes. You will work closely with the production team, leveraging your project management and CAD expertise and methodical approach to create detailed instructions and innovative solutions for composite manufacturing.

This position requires all candidates to be eligible to live and work in the UK and must be capable of achieving a valid UK Government security vetting clearance, candidates must also hold a sole UK British passport (no dual nationalities). Norco will guide and assist with the SC process once employment is agreed and provide ongoing support and training in this field. Please note, hybrid working is not available for this role.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Lead Engineer, you will:

• Lead a small project team for large projects. Ensure planning activities are aligned with Project timescales, escalate where required.
• Identify and advise customers on specific manufacturing techniques or processes.
• Oversee the entire Production Engineering process from concept/quotation to Planning (Tool Design, Documentation, Implementation).
• Lead Continuous Improvement within manufacturing and Engineering processes. Eliminate waste, Reduce Costs, Improve Quality and increased efficiency.
• Ensure manufacturing processes and equipment comply with relevant quality and safety standards.
• Develop and maintain standard operating procedures, work instructions and MRP Layouts to ensure consistency and quality of manufactured products.
• Be the Point of Contact with customer Project leads or Design engineering to ensure that detailed DFM feedback is communicated.
• Ability to create, maintain and present detailed project plans including critical path outputs, resource management and milestones.
• Train, Mentor and develop junior engineers to enhance their skills and build a strong project team.
• Take a structured approach to Problem solving factoring in all stakeholders.
• Monitor KPI’s for Engineering and Project specific outputs.

Skills & Qualifications:

Essential:

• Proven experience in a manufacturing and engineering role ideally within composites.
• Strong working knowledge of 2D and 3D CAD software.
• Production planning within an MRP/ERP environment including creation of part numbers, BOM’s and manufacturing routings as well as an overall understanding of MRP/ERP
• Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
• A methodical approach to problem-solving.
• Experience and confidence working with external stakeholders.
• Detail orientated – accuracy in process documentation is essential for safety critical structures.

Desirable:

• Knowledge of any of the following of 2D and 3D CAD software (Siemens NX, Rhino & Solidworks preferred but not mandatory.
• A degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
• Knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques.
• Experience with customer specifications and standards, plus experience with quality management systems to ISO & AS standards.
• Project Management knowledge and experience.
