Senior Engineer

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Engineer to join our team. This role is responsible for managing all activities required to successfully deliver assigned projects, from initial design through to completion. The position requires a practical, hands-on approach, strong problem-solving skills, and experience working within a quality-controlled environment, ideally with AS9100 or a similar standard.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Engineering Manager or the Operations Manager, collaborating across the engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, to budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Manufacturing Process Development & Improvement

• Concept and implement new manufacturing processes and equipment for new products and ensure continuous improvement of existing work packages.
• Optimise production processes using Lean methodologies, 5S, value stream mapping, and root cause analysis to reduce waste and improve efficiency.
• Conduct feasibility studies and develop manufacturing plans, including layouts, work cell designs, and facility upgrades.
• Support prototype builds, providing technical expertise and resolving issues before full-scale production.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the manufacturing function by implementing new techniques and best practices.

Project & Stakeholder Management

• Lead and manage manufacturing development projects from conception to launch, including capital expenditure (CAPEX) requests for new equipment and tooling.
• Manage project budgets and timelines, providing progress reports to senior management or Programme Managers.
• Chair and sign off design reviews at all stages for tooling for internal and external manufacture.
• Assist Engineering Manager with team management and recruitment.

Technical Leadership & Expertise

• Provide advanced technical expertise to resolve complex production issues and implement solutions.
• Develop detailed technical documentation, including standard work documents, process maps, and validation protocols.
• Complete and approve activities for documentation, drawings, and CAD data created by the Engineering team, ensuring compliance with Health & Safety and regulatory requirements.
• Lead and mentor teams on Lean and Six Sigma principles to foster a culture of improvement.

• Minimum 6 years + proven experience in a technical or manufacturing environment.
• Proficient with the use of CAD, preferably Siemens NX, Solidworks or Rhino.
• HNC or Degree qualification in a related field.
• Proven track record working with composites, with prepreg experience desirable but not essential.
• Strong problem solving skills with the ability to manage fast moving complex engineering projects.
