Rising fuel and running costs, environmental regulations, and increased demand have driven the aerospace industry increasingly into the use of advanced composites. Composite materials now play a key role in the production of modern military, business and commercial aircraft along with many other service, support and training roles within the aerospace industry.
At NORCO, we have earned our position within the industry throughout multiple successful long term design and development programs, one of the largest being flight simulators for L3 (previously Thales). We implemented the design and development process for 7m diameter, dynamically loaded, radial structures.
THE COMPLETE PACKAGE
Since these early aerospace projects, we have partnered with social media giant, Facebook, to work on the long term research and development project ‘Aquila’. Aquila is an unmanned aerial vehicle designed to fly for 3 month periods unsupported. The airframe itself is larger in wingspan than a Boeing 737, constructed entirely in advanced carbon fibre composite materials. We supplied every Aquila airframe, from fuselage, wing sections and ailerons to wing tips.
Here at NORCO we are able to offer the complete package for new or existing projects such as those outlined above, from R&D, CNC master patterns and tooling, design and engineering, structural analysis and FEA, manufacturing process optimisation to component manufacture, inspection and non-destructive testing (NDT). We can provide as many of these services as required by our clients, to ensure every product delivered meets or exceeds the customers’ expectations.
